The Road to 2020:

Why Older Adults are Undercounted in the Census, Why This Matters, and What We Can Do

... & short OGA business meeting

Please join us for our first event in 2020: A presentation about the upcoming Census and the annual meeting of the membership of OGA, including election of officers.

Complimentary lunch (courtesy of AARP) will be provided for those who register by the end of Tuesday, January 7.

Presentation

The presentation will focus on why we do a decennial Census and will support the critical message that the 2020 Census is safe, important, and easy. The importance will be stressed as we discuss the impact a Census has on our communities for the next ten years.

Jim Graham will discuss the Census Partnership Program, which works with local governments and community organizations as we together strive to identify, reach, interview, and/or encourage "Hard-to-Count" (HTC) populations such as older adults with specific challenges to respond to the 2020 Census.

Finally, the critical importance of Census data and its role in statistics, grant funding, and planning in both the public and private sectors will be discussed at a high level.

Presenter

Jim Graham is a Partnership Specialist with the 2020 U.S. Census supporting the Oregon Coast and Oregon's senior citizens statewide. Jim's background is in senior living management, entrepreneurial business, fruit fly genetics, in addition to years as a US Navy Sonar Technician and Navy Instructor.
