Careers in Aging: Virtual Career Fair

This event will consist of two parts: a panel discussion and and a "meet and greet" part during which attendees can interact with different professionals in the field. Your registration is good for both parts, no matter whether you are planning to attend only one part or both.

While this career fair is focused on providing helpful information for current and prospective students interested in aging, everyone - student or not - is welcome to join, ask questions, learn about the work of others, and/or share their own career stories!

Part 1

10 AM - 11 AM: Experts in Aging Panel & Career Story Sharing

During the first hour, a panel of OGA members will briefly introduce themselves and their past and/or current work, outline their career paths, and share any experiences, insights, and lessons learned along the way. After these introductions, all attendees are invited to ask questions and share their own career stories and experiences.

Panelists:

  • Kathleen M. Sullivan, PhD - Regional Director for EngAGE NW; OGA Board President
  • Jenny Sasser, PhD - Faculty at Portland Community College (PCC; gerontology program); former Founding Director of Marylhurst University's gerontology program
  • Vicki Schmall, PhD President and Gerontology & Training Specialist with Aging Concerns; Professor Emerita of Oregon State University (OSU)
  • Margaret B. Neal, PhD - Professor Emerita of Portland State University (PSU); former Director of PSU's Institute on Aging

Part 2

11 AM - 12 PM: "Meet & Greet" with Aging Professionals

During the second hour, attendees will have the opportunity to virtually meet several professionals working in different aging-related fields. They will give a brief overview of their work, career path, and most important lessons learned, and then be available to answer questions.

Each aging professional will host their own Zoom meeting so attendees can switch among meetings as they wish. The 60 minutes will be divided into three 20-minute segments, each starting with the same introduction so attendees have a chance to learn about at least three professionals without missing any background information.
