Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy - What Do We Know About Evidence in Humans?

In 2020, Oregon became the first U.S. state to legalize the therapeutic use of psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient of "magic mushrooms." Measure 109, also known as the Oregon Psilocybin Services Act, directs the Oregon Health Authority to develop, implement, and enforce a state-licensed program for the controlled use of psilocybin products to treat, among others, depression, PTSD, and anxiety in patients 21 years of age or older.

Dr. Maureen Nash will explain how psilocybin affects the human brain and give an overview of the current state of research on the effectiveness and safety of psilocybin and related substances in therapeutic settings, with a special focus on older adults (e.g., treatment of individuals with a terminal illness). Challenges, open questions, and controversies will be addressed. As always, some time will be reserved for attendees to ask questions and share their thoughts.

Intended audience: This webinar is appropriate for anyone interested in learning more about the therapeutic use of psychedelics and the state of science regarding their effectiveness and potential risks.
