This presentation will assist participants in unders tanding the history of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and how it applies to people who age into disability. This includes understanding the rights and responsibilities of physical access for people with mobility-re lated disabilities and effective communication for people with hearing, vis ion, and cognitive disabilities in community and civic settings. Current tr ends in disability language and etiquette will also be reviewed.
About the presenter:
Michael Richardson directs the Northwest ADA Ce nter and provides technical assistance, training, continuing education, and technical consultation services related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other federal and state disability laws.
He also co-ch airs the Accessible Health Care Committee with the ADA National Network and often speaks on accessible health care topics such as effective communicat ion for people with communication disabilities, and physical and program ac cess to medical facilities, services, and programs.
In addition, Mich ael provides cultural competency consultation and training in relation to i nteracting with people with disabilities and building inclusive programs. p>
