  • Positive Aging Health and Wellness Fair 
    • When: Saturday, October 10th 11 am - 4 pm 
    • Where: 5626 NE Alameda St, Portland, OR 97213
    • What: Join the Community for Positive Aging, in collaboration with the German American Society of Portland and AARP, for this free event all about celebrating and supporting older adults, family members, and caregivers in our community. 
  • Opportunity for Scholarship to Attend Oregon Public Health Association Conference (October 21 - 22)

We are pleased to share an opportunity for free admission to the OPHA Conference in Salem. OGA Board Member Autumn Decker is, in addition to her role on the OGA Board, the co-chair of the brand-new Aging & Public Health Section of the Oregon Public Health Association! This section is dedicated to promoting the health and well-being of individuals as they age by improving their health, functioning, and quality of life and was created to bridge the public health and gerontology fields within an existing public health space. This section will provide opportunities for those working in public health to learn about aging, have access to resources and people working in aging, and inspire the public health workforce to include aging issues and older adults in their programs, policies, and plans. 

With the formation of the section, section leaders would like to offer the opportunity to offer several scholarships to attend this year’s OPHA conference on Oct 21-22, 2026 in Salem Oregon for FREE.   • OCEBHA October Webinar: Gambling Risks & Older Adult Financial Well-Being 
    • Where: online at https://ocebhaoctoberwebinar.rsvpify.com/ 
    • When: October 28th at 12 - 1:30 pm PT
    • What: As traditional gaming expands into prediction markets, cryptocurrency trading, and gamified digital products, older adults face a rapidly shifting landscape of risk. Join the Oregon Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health & Aging (OCEBHA) for a 90-minute virtual session examining how these emerging products impact financial well-being, how to recognize the warning signs of problem gambling in later life, and how financial literacy acts as a critical protective factor. Participants will leave equipped with actionable insights to mitigate financial harms and connect individuals to local support systems, including the Oregon Problem Gambling Helpline.

      This presentation brings together practical economic and sociological expertise from leading state researchers: Glenn Yamagata, M.A., M.Phil. (Executive Director of the Oregon Council on Problem Gambling, Vice President at Problem Gambling Solutions, Inc., and former McKinsey consultant) and Andrea Dassopoulos (Research Faculty at the UNLV International Gaming Institute and Research Director for OCPG's Oregon Gambling Research Center).
  • Opportunity from AGE+ to work on the Multi-Sector Plan for Aging: 

    • Oregon's population is changing, and we need to respond. People from communities and sectors across the state are coming together to work on the Multi-Sector Plan for Aging. As this work ramps up, your input is needed to help make sure things like housing, healthcare, and transportation work for everyone. This plan is about creating a future where all Oregonians feel welcome and supported.
